Selection Process at Altra

Application
Altra requests that all applicants complete an application to be considered for one of our posted positions.  We know this can be tedious, especially if you have held numerous jobs over the years.  You may be tempted to enter "see resume" rather than complete all of the fields.

The reason we ask you to enter all of your information is to prevent you from having to enter that information later if we invite you to interview.  If we extend a job offer to you, the application is the document we use to perform your background check.

Initial Screening
Every application that passes through the initial screening questions will be reviewed in full.  Applicants who appear to meet the minimum requirements for the job will be contacted.  Depending on the number of applicants, this process can take a week after the application deadline or longer.  We do not begin this process until the application deadline has passed.

Interview
Altra conducts panel interviews with 3-4 people on the interview panel.  The panel will ask questions specific to your education and previous employment.  The panel will then ask 4-8 behavioral-based questions, in which they seek a response of a specific situation you have been in, what actions you took in that situation, and what the outcome of that situation was.  At the end of the interview, the lead interviewer will discuss some further details of the position, Altra culture, and what to expect through the rest of the selection process.  Individual interviews may take anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours.  When being scheduled for the interview, the hiring manager should mention how much time to allow for the individual panel interview.  The interview process for a particular position could take 1-3 weeks, depending on panel member and candidate availability.  Human Resources should keep in contact with you regarding the status of the process.

Offer
Once the interviews are completed, the interview team will decide which candidate they would like to invite to join Altra.

If you are selected, you will be contacted by the hiring manager, who will extend the offer to you verbally and then forward the formal offer to you via mail.

The offer is contingent upon the following:

  • You are able to provide acceptable proof of your eligibility to work in the United States within three days of your hire; and
  • Your background check is satisfactory; and, for most of our positions,
  • Your credit check is satisfactory.

Credit Check

Most of our positions require a credit check. Less-than-perfect credit does not automatically bar you from employment.  However, if you had or currently have credit issues, you should be prepared to discuss what lead to the issues and what you have done or are doing to make restitution to the creditor(s).  In addition, we require documentation from the creditor(s) of your repayment agreement(s).


New Employee Onboarding
If you pass the contingencies and accept our offer of employment, you will be welcomed to Altra Federal Credit Union with New Employee Onboarding.  The first week will be spent discussing Credit Union History, Altra History, signing new employee paperwork, policies and procedures, and going through a comprehensive onboarding process that gives an overview of Altra's products and services.  You will be given your training plan, which could take anywhere from 1 week to 2 months or more, depending upon your position.
